that the action, however minimal, provokes a reaction.
Symbolic also of our faith in the future
and the durability of our organisation.

Jacqueline GOVIN Présidente de Fibre Art Synergy

Since its creatin in 1992, FIBRE ART SYNERGY is puzzling and questioning. Up to this date, no explanation, no answer has completely satisfied the curiosity of our interlocutors : why, in France already full of numerous associations regarding textile, having created one more ?
The response, entirely contained in the name of the association
FIBRE ART SYNERGY seems obvious : "Fibre Art" for the Art of Fibres, our favorite territory, "Synergy" for the state of mind, the dynamism and the interaction in which we are functioning.
The question which nevertheless persists, comes from the fact that, usually, the action of textile associations is situated at the practice of a technique level and its expansion : like associations for cross-stitch, patchwork, lace... whom members are meeting for workshops in order to exchange their skills, to organize punctual exhibitions to show their own work, upholding in a way, a survival of ladie's work parties of olden times.

FIBRE ART SYNERGY, aware that this framework is already existing, has taken for mission to act at another level : valorization, recognition of Fibre Art and Textile Art in the noble sense of the term.
The fibre, animal, vegetal, mineral, synthetic is declining in many materials that artists are transforming with the help of several techniques, sometimes wise and obedient when it's coming directly from the "textile world" (weaving, embroidery, bobbin lace for instance), or sometimes "less proper" when it comes from other guilds (painting, collage, soldering, burning, etc...).
The Fibre Art that our association has chosen to promote is the result of those "cross-territories". Acquired skills and diversions from their strict rules, are one of the characteristics of this Fibre Art. Transgression, dissidence are apanages of the liberty of this way of expression, still too much ignored by art galleries in France, and by places that build careers.

Nevertheless, the "French Fibre Art Movement" is there, it exists and exhibitions we have been showing for 7 years are here to prove it.

In the 80's, galleries have exhibited creations from contemporary ceramists and glass designers, thus educating their public and collectors, giving then to those artists a quotation that no one contests today. So, there is one thing for us to hope : find in Paris or somewhere else a well-known gallery which will dare and defend the work of those contemporary fibre artists showing then, at the dawn of 21st century, when the fear of the unknown is disappearing, when consciousness recognizes, at last, the wealth of crossbreeding, times has come for us to have the mind wide-opened.
